WESTERN MACEDONIA - THE REGION OF DEVELOPMENT

In North-Western region of Greece is situated the Region of Western Macedonia. It is divided into the prefectures of Grevena, Kastoria, Kozani and Florina, while its capital is located in the town of Kozani.

The district of Western Macedonia covers an area of 9.451 sq. Km, and occupies 7,2% of the total country. Its surface is mainly mountainous 82%, distributed into forest 33,4%, pastures 39,1%, agricultural areas 23,3%, residential areas 0,9%, water 2,4% and other areas 0,9%.

The region is a source of significant natural resources, such as energy minerals, various ores, forests or pastures, while it covers 65% of the swallow water resources of the country.

The Region of Western Macedonia, as Public authority, strives to succeed a balanced and continuous economic development. With accountability and consistency, effectuate a coherent and long term plan for the entrance of the region to international market.

Under the auspices of European Union, through the European Regional Development Funds, as well as the Greek Ministry of Development, the realization of the project “Promotion of Western Macedonia’s Region Products & Services.” is under way.

The aim of this project is a spherical support of region’s strategic industry sectors, through an organized promotional campaign abroad.
